Affirmative action case before US Supreme Court today

In a landmark case decided a decade ago, the U.S. Supreme Court said the University of Michigan Law School could do so. Today, the high court will be asked if Michigan voters had the right in 2006 to strip that authority away.

At issue: Did Michigan violate the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution by amending the state constitution to prohibit race-based preferential treatment in public-university admissions decisions?

The surprising thing to me is that so many of these affirmative action cases come out of our state. Michigan is a pretty conservative state on many issues, that happens to get pulled to the left because of other issues.
